Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning on Tuesday in response to the devastation caused by strong winds and dust storms. The warning stated that thunderstorms with lightning and moderate rain are expected in certain sections of the Mumbai suburban region within the next three to four hours. Along with the thunderstorms, gusts of wind of 40 to 50 kmph are predicted, therefore locals are advised to use caution when going outside.
According to the Met Office, “Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and moderate rainfall, along with gusty winds of 40-50 kmph, are highly likely to occur at isolated locations in the Mumbai suburban districts over the next 3-4 hours.”
A 120 by 120-foot advertisement hoarding crashed over a gas station in Ghatkopar on Monday, resulting in a sad catastrophe that left dozens of people injured and 14 people dead. At least 12 fire engines and other vehicles were called in for the extensive search and rescue effort that followed the collapse, and it has been going on since Monday afternoon.
The billboard was installed illegally and without the required authorization, according to the authorities. After visiting the location, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde issued an order for a thorough structural examination of every hoarding in the city. Charges under sections 304, 338, and 337 of the Indian Penal Code have been brought by the police against the owner of Ego Media and other individuals involved in the construction of the collapsed hoarding.
While Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Mumbai for the Lok Sabha election campaign, the Mumbai Police banned drones, paragliders, balloons, kites, and remote-controlled microlight aircraft, among other airborne equipment. The restriction, which is in place in a number of locations, including Ghatkopar, Dadar, Chembur, and Vikhroli, is intended to stop any possible threats from occurring while the visitor is there.
Along with Mahayuti leaders, Prime Minister Modi is expected to speak at a gathering at Shivaji Park on Friday. To protect VIPs and guests during the event, the police issued a preventive order under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). The directive was signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Akbar Pathan and is slated to take effect on Wednesday and Friday.
Mumbai Traffic Police enforced traffic limits and provided alternate routes due to concerns of possible terrorist activity or disturbances to public tranquility during the visit. Travelers were urged to arrange their trips appropriately, especially on Lal Bahadur Shah Marg, the Eastern Express Highway, and the Western Express Highway, where heavy traffic is predicted as a result of Prime Minister Modi’s roadshow.
